The Large Saw-tailed Bush-cricket (Polysarcus denticauda) is one of the largest katydids in Europe, inhabiting mountain long-grass meadows with lush vegetation, where the loud, high-pitched stridulation of its males is an indispensable part of the soundscape. The female is feeding in the inflorescence of Broad-leaved Giant Fennel (Lophosciadium galbaniferum). The photo was taken in July on Mount Slivnica in the karstic region of Slovenia.
