Science for All

Our Biodiversity podcast series is out! In a conversation with Alberto Basset, Professor of Ecology at the University of Salento and Director of the LifeWatch ERIC Service Centre in Lecce, Italy, we delve into what biodiversity is, how it is organised and maintained, while highlighting the need to protect and restore it, and the nexus between biodiversity responses, human well-being and climate change. Listen to our podcast series dedicated to biodiversity issues!

Biology studies living organisms and the life on Earth that has evolved over 3.7 billion years. Diversity can be described in terms of species, genetics, ecosystems, species and ecosystems within a landscape, etc. Together, let's learn again what biodiversity really means.

Ecosystem communities develop through natural selection and co-evolution. However, human activities can harm some species. Explore how the structure of ecosystems relates to key drivers of energy availability, disturbance intensity, and periodicity in this podcast episode.

The destruction of ecosystems and forests alters landscapes, introduces non-native species, and impacts biodiversity and crucial ecosystem services necessary for human survival. Discover why we need to conserve and manage biodiversity.

Climate change adversely affects ecosystems, living organisms, human health, and economies across the globe. Check out this podcast episode to learn why urgent action is necessary to address climate change and global warming impacts.
