BEeS 2025: You still have time to submit your abstract!

The countdown is on! Abstract submissions for the Biodiversity and Ecosystem eScience Conference 2025 are open until 15 April, so there’s still time to secure your spot at this summer’s event in Heraklion, Greece.

This year’s theme, The Triple Planetary Crisis, brings together researchers to tackle key challenges in biological diversity and conservation, ecological responses to climate change, biogeography, taxonomy, biodiversity monitoring, and habitat mapping: all through the lens of eScience. Hosted by HCMR-IMBBC, the conference is an opportunity for scientists at all career stages, including PhD and Master’s students, to present their work and connect with the community.

Are you working on something exciting? Get your abstract in before the deadline! See you in Heraklion!

News from the World of Research

The European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) released its Monitoring Panel Report at the end of 2024. The report evaluates its Landmark Research Infrastructures, including LifeWatch ERIC. We published an excerpt of the official document, highlighting LifeWatch ERIC’s strengths and areas for improvement.

Coastal Wetlands are broadly defined as “areas of saltwater and freshwater located within coastal zones”: among the most crucial ecosystems, they play a key role for climate and economy. RESTORE4Cs recently launched a Serious Game School Competition: a fun and easy way to make school students learn about this fascinating world.

ENVRI-Hub is the platform providing access to environmental research infrastructures, data and digital tools across disciplines. The ENVRI-Hub User Group, launched in February, will help shape the platform by inviting researchers, data scientists, and environmental professionals to collaborate, test the tools, provide feedback and exchange ideas with like-minded individuals.

Are you curious to see science in action? As part of MarineSABRES, a dedicated team is actually replanting seagrass beds at the bottom of the sea. This incredible process has been captured in some high-quality footage for a documentary set to be released in 2026. Catch a sneak peek in the trailer on our LifeWatching Science Channel, and watch the magic happen!

Oxytoxum sceptrum

A tiny guardian of Ria de Aveiro! This little crab was spotted at the RESTORE4Cs pilot site where seagrass restoration efforts are underway. Perfectly camouflaged in the sand, it’s a reminder of the rich biodiversity these habitats support.
