Join LifeWatch ERIC & friends at the Science Summit 2024 on 26 September!

LifeWatch ERIC co-organises a workshop as part of the Science Summit 2024 at United Nations General Assembly (UNGA79) activities in New York (USA), within a network of European organisations representing active communities from the fields of biodiversity, ecology and engineering domains.  The workshop is called "Transforming Knowledge into Practice: Science, Technology and Innovation in Support of the UN SDGs", and takes place on 26 SeptemberThe agenda consists of two parts: one in the morning, on the collective contribution to the implementation of the UN SDGs, and one in the afternoon presenting expectations from the participating science and technology organisations on the above topic.

Alberto Basset, Director of LifeWatch ERIC Service Centre and Full Professor of Ecology at the University of Salento, joined the G20 panel dedicated to Biological Diversity, Conservation Units and Biosphere Reserves in Manaus, upon invitation from the Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR).

LifeWatch ERIC has been included in the autumn issue of The Niche, the British Ecological Society (BES) magazine. The BES is the oldest ecological society in the world. LifeWatch ERIC has been selected for the support it offers to the long-term sustainability of Earth’s ecosystems and biodiversity.

A snapshot of LifeWatch Belgium's achievements: EurOBIS completes its 20th year with 100 datasets, doubling its collection in 5 years; WoRMS releases an opinion paper on global biodiversity data management; the Ocean Census sets an impressive target of 100,000 new species in the next 10 years.

Ecosystem alterations often become perceptible when it’s very late to intervene, yet they occur at high rates, with impacts on society and health. The LifeWatch Greece workshop explored advances in the areas of interest of the One Health framework, including -omics, biodiversity and ecosystem research.

LifeWatch ERIC will attend the EU Researchers' Night on 27 September, presenting results and activities of Marine SABRES. The focus is on the socio-ecological system framework developed with the active support of local stakeholders in three EU marine regions, promoting the sustainable use of marine resources.

RESTORE4Cs aims to assess the role of restoration action on wetlands’ capacity, through an integrative socio-ecological systems approach. Within the scope of this objective, on 9 September 2024, the project launched its first Policy Brief, which highlights the aspect of Greenhouse Gas emissions.
